4020155096 Lab course on surface calculations
Digital- & Präsenz-basierter Kurs
Requirements
Basics of solid-state physics and Quantum Mechanics
Structure / topics / contents
Surface structures, stabilities, and reactivities can be well understood from density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. To perform such calculations, one needs to know some basic knowledge of solid surfaces, computational skills and techniques. This lab course is intended to introduce the solid-vacuum surfaces, and demonstrate how to perform such calculations using a standard DFT code. We focus on: (1) How to build surface structures from scratch. (2) How to calculate surface energies, diffusion barriers, and so on. (3) How to analysis the results and understand the physical problems.
